The Lemosho Route is widely considered to be the best route on Mount Kilimanjaro. Follow the less-used and scenic Lemosho route, climb and descend on different paths, walking through the mountain’s varied climatic regions and admiring the changing plant and animal life.

The Lemosho Route is a good 8-day hike for those who have not trekked much at high altitudes, with an effective extra day’s acclimatization, giving a better success rate. Experienced and already acclimatized mountaineers may opt for the more difficult 7-day ascent along the

    Arrival

    Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro Int’l Airport, you will be met and transferred by our representative to Arusha. Overnight at Arusha Hotel. Meal Included: Dinner.

    Londorossi Gate – Mti Mkubwa Camp

    • Distance: ~5.5km / 3.5 miles • Trekking time: 3-4 hours • Max. altitude: 2,100 meters – 2,360 meters • Zone: Rainforest: Wake up to a chorus of birds this morning. After a thorough briefing and gear check, it’s off to the wide-open plains that lead to Kilimanjaro. After registering at the Kilimanjaro National Park gate, make a long climb from the base camp through the dense rainforest of rubber trees and giant fig trees, scrambling up steep sections of roots and rock until you arrive at a forested campsite near a series of caves.     Mti Mkubwa – Shira 1 Camp

    •Distance: ~8km / 5 miles •Trekking time: 5-6 hours •Max. altitude: 2,820 meters – 3,500 meters •Zone: Rainforest / Low Alpine Zone: After a nutritious breakfast at camp, lace up your boots, our journey continues eastwards across the Shira Plateau with spectacular views of Shira Cathedral. Climbing rolling hills, you will enjoy spectacular views of the forest canopy and plains below. It will be colder tonight than the previous night with temperatures possibly falling below freezing. Overnight at Shira 1 Camp. Meal Included: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

    Shira 1 Camp – Moir Hut

    •Distance: ~14km / 8.5 miles •Trekking time: 5-7 hours •Max. altitude: 3,500 meters – 4,200 meters •Zone: Low alpine zone / High alpine zone: As the sun’s rays stretch over the mountain face this morning, we leave the forest behind now and the trail gets steeper as it enters the moorland zone. A gentle grade walk takes you across the high-altitude Shira Caldera to Moir Hut with fabulous views of Arrow glacier. We will camp here. Overnight at Moir Hut. Meal Included: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

    Moir Hut – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp

    •Distance: ~12km / 7.5 miles •Trekking time: 6-7 hours •Max. altitude: 4,200 – (4,600 meters) – 3,900 meters •Zone: High alpine zone: Proceed steadily upward over expansive ridgelines of high desert to Lava Tower, and the Shark’s Tooth formation at 4,600 meters. You will have lunch at Lava Tower before joining the Southern Circuit trail which descends to Barranco Camp 3,900 meters and offers great opportunities to take some beautiful photographs of the Western Breach and Breach Wall. Climbing high and sleeping low is a good way to acclimatize the body to altitude. The camp is situated in a valley below the Breach and Great Barranco Wall. Overnight at Barranco Camp.     Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp

    •Distance: ~7km / 4 miles •Trekking time: 4 hours •Max. altitude: 3,900 meters – 3,960 meters • Zone: High alpine zone: A short but fun day, and important for acclimatization. The day begins with a scramble up the steep Barranco Wall, then traversing up and down the slopes of valleys which have carved their way into the mountain’s southern face. Kibo’s glaciers loom above to your left and the jagged peaks of Mawenzi jut into the African sky at just under 17,000 feet straight ahead. Reach the Karanga Valley for a hot lunch served at camp. The afternoon can be spent for excursions around the camp. Overnight at Karanga Camp. Meal Included: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

    Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp

    •Distance: ~6km / 4 miles •Trekking time: 3 hours •Max. altitude: 3,960 meters – 4,680 meters •Zone: High alpine zone: Today the trail quickly joins the Mweka descent trail. From here we continue up to Barafu Camp. You have now completed the Southern Circuit, which offers views of the summit from many different angles. At camp, we can rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the summit day. The two peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo are to be clearly seen from this position. Overnight at Barafu Camp.     Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp

    •Distance: ~4.5km / 3 miles ascent and then 11km / 7-mile descent •Trekking time: 6-8 hours to the summit and then 5-8 hours to Mweka •Max. altitude: 4,680 meters – (5,895 meters) – Mweka Camp (3,100 meters) • Zone: Glacial zone and all preceding zones<br /> A steaming hot drink will arrive very early on this momentous day – your summit day! After a midnight wakeup call, begin trekking with your headlamp at 1:00am. The temperatures range from just below freezing at midnight, to between -10 degrees and 10 degrees just before dawn at the summit. The winding path of endless switchbacks will take form and shape in the shadows of the Ratzel and Rebman glaciers at early dawn, and behind you the spires of Mawenzi will be silhouetted against the red glow of the sun from beneath the clouds.After about six hours of walking, you will come to the edge of the crater; Stella Point, at 19,000 feet on the crater rim is the end of the steep climb.From here, there is a gentle slope to Uhuru Peak, which takes about an hour. The strength it takes to ascend this final 340 feet is for many monumental. You will all encourage each other to take those final few steps to reach your goal – the Roof of Africa at 19,341 feet! After taking photos at the summit, descend the steep scree trail back to Barafu Camp for some rest, then summon your strength again for a further descent to Mweka Camp for the night.     Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate

    •Distance: ~9km / 5.5 miles •Trekking time: 3-5 hours •Max. altitude: 3,100 meters – 1,640 meters •Zone: Rainforest: Your final day on the trek, departing after breakfast we descend a further 1300m to the Mweka Park Gate to pick up your summit certificates from the Park Headquarters. Transfer to your Arusha hotel. Meal Included: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

    Depart

    After breakfast, we will bid you goodbye and transferred to the airport for your onwards journey. You can arrange with us an extension safari or Zanzibar trip, after your successful Kilimanjaro climb. Meals Included: Breakfast.
